Post Transplant Day 258 (6/20/2013) Update- The past two days have been slow going, but with positive vibes. Very little medical changes were made yesterday and today. It finally seems like we found the “happy medium” as far as sedation goes. Tristan can now wake up, stay awake, and not get crazy mad. We have been able to interact with him, watch his DVD’s, or just fall back asleep without him completely freaking out. Tristan was extubated off of the ventilator yesterday. He was initially switched to a Hi-Flow nasal cannulas. He was on Hi-Flow for approximately 5 hours. Towards the end, he was visibly having a hard time breathing. Tristan was then switched to a Bi-Pap cannulas. This allowed him to have the assistance of pressurized air with less oxygen. There was almost an immediate change in Tristan’s demeanor. He was doing better and felt better too. There were no problems overnight and throughout today. Tristan is still on Bi-Pap and doing great. Tristan’s formula was started up again today. We started with a trickle rate and are slowly increasing it. Tristan’s bed was also swapped out today. The “trial bed” needed to go back to its owner, so while doing so, Emily capitalized on an opportunity to hold Tristan; the first time in almost a month. All in all, Tristan has had a very successful two days!!!
