Post Wedding Pondering Countless times since first becoming a mother, Ive been drawn to the following verse: “But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.” Luke 2:19 As the dictionary teaches, to “ponder is to consider something deeply, thoughtfully, and thoroughly. Most of us know that Mary certainly had a great deal to ponder! Just as I have enrapturing memories such as marrying the man who exceeded my greatest dreams, or first laying eyes on my newborn baby or my soon-to-be adopted child, there continues to be an increase to the moments of bliss added to my life. Since the marriage ceremony and celebration of my son and his new bride this past weekend, I have enjoyed pondering the goodness of the Lord God to our family. As Psalms 9:1 says, “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds,” my heart also aspires to share with others the wonder of Gods love in my life. Much planning, so Ive learned, goes into a wedding! There is time and there is work. Our earthly bodies become exhausted and in desperate need of rest. Often, it is at this point, that a person may have the feeling of “getting it over and done with.” As with any other meaningful event to plan, it is wise to rest – and rest in the Lord – to be refreshed, both physically and emotionally, ready to see and receive the gifts that the Lord is ready to shower us with. I have experienced prayer after prayer answered in the planning of Tate and Koris wedding! Doug and I are thankful that they asked us to help, for if they hadnt, we would have missed out on seeing the Lords hand in each and every step. Choosing one of the numerous available churches in our town and locking in an affordable place for the reception was barely the beginning. After that, each shopping date out consisted not only in finding the right prices to fit the “dollar in hand,” there was also the budding of new relationships. Whether the needs consisted of sixty vases and enough silk flowers to fill them or finding just the right sandals in all the needed sizes to fit the budget, God was always about the building of relationships and sweet memories. Each particular item and quantity desired was prayed for financially, and God met every need – even supplying the money on the exact day it was needed (like through a puppy customer). Some people may believe that we shouldnt bother the great and mighty God with such “minute requests”, yet his Word teaches that we will have not if we ask not. We ARE to ask of him. I know that He is in every little detail in life - and He works in, through, and out of the hearts of his people. His people – those loving, caring, kind, and generous people – who gave and gave! Words of encouragement and advice, helping me prepare the reception feast, creating bows and a delicious rehearsal dinner, helping me order napkins and bulletins, sifting sand and painting sticks, covering tables and decorating the gym, creating beautiful cakes and elegant hairstyles, sharing the gift of music, putting food on the tables and keeping the dishes full.....the list goes on and on. How are all the memories preserved, other than in my mind? The answer to that is with the precious gift of a sweet photographer. My heart is filled with thankfulness! How about the tedious job of cleaning up after the day is over? After an emotionally and physically full day – and week - I was energized with strength, once again, in the cleanup process by all those who stayed and joined in the “not-so-fun, behind-the-scenes” undertaking. I trust that all those who helped by giving of themselves to bless Tate and Koris day, have been blessed themselves in their acts of service. God moves the hearts of people, stirring them into action, and its all worth reflecting on. People are worth pondering. Reflecting on the special people that have touched my life in countless ways, is worth putting into words, “that I may publish with a voice of thanksgiving and tell of all thy wondrous works.” Psalms 26:7. Gods greatest creation, his people, move my heart, mind, and soul to thankfulness and praise. “Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are toward us: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them they are more than can be numbered.” Psalms 40:5 It is my prayer that those reading this will stop in lifes busyness now and then to ponder the people – the irreplaceable people - in your life..... and may your heart be lifted up in sweet thankfulness to the Lord God!
