Post colonialism the Aboriginal estate is estimated between 18-20 % of the Australian land mass. The proportion of Indigenous land by state and territory in New South Wales is significantly different to the Northern Territory. In New South Wales, land that is owned (Native title) and managed by Aboriginal people is 0.001% compared to NT being 43.67%. The majority of Australias bush fires occur in NSW and Victoria (VIC didnt even rate in the statistics). From a land management and custodial perspective there is something wrong here. In NSW, why is there a major gap within Aboriginal communities and control in fire management, especially in areas that are prone to bush fires?
