Post from another site, about another one of my experiences. I bought the Daisy pump BB gun as a kid, cutting grass and cleaning up at the local ice cream shop at night when they closed. I was eight years old. My folks found out about my BB gun and confiscated it. I was able to earn enough money in two weeks to buy another one. When they passed away we found my 1950 Daisy Pump BB Gun on a concrete pillar down in the basement, it was up high and out of sight. The termites had devoured the stock and forepiece. There was some surface rust on the metal parts. My son, Scott, blasted the metal with walnut shells which cleaned it perfectly without removing metal. I immediately reblued it and although never having done that before, it turned out perfectly. I had not cocked the gun at all and had no idea about the internal mechanism after all these years. (Im now 72) I called Daisy in Arkansas and told the operator what I had and that when I bought it there was a lifetime warranty. She said she never heard of that so I asked if maybe there was some old guy who had been there forever that I could speak with. She said as a matter of fact there is and she connected me. This guy said yes that the warranty back then was a lifetime one and if I would send him my BB gun he would take a look at it for me. So I did. It was gone for months and months and my pal who owned a gun store kept asking me when I was gonna get that match grade BB gun back...hahahahaha. So one day, sure enough it was returned to me. That wonderful old gentleman had turned a new forepiece on a lathe and hand carved a new stock. He also put gold in the stamped inlay on each side which depicts a hunter with his rifle and retriever. It was marvelous!!. I take it to the gun shop one day and my pal is about to cock it and I scream..no no no...He laughs and says are you never going to shoot it again? I said probably not. Well some years later it kinda got the best of me so I go and buy some BBs. It is so unbelievably accurate! I would have to put a drop of oil in the barrel from time to time to keep the accuracy I reckon because the oil coating gives the ammo a little bit tighter fit. This model is the one which loads by taking out the muzzle and pulling up the spring mechanism and loading 50 BBs. We always thought this style was best for hunters because the BBs couldnt rattle and frighten off the wild game. So then after I had re broken it in, I called my pal at the gun store and said bring in your best pistol and give me a call one day. He was kind of a cagey guy and when I got the call, it was a Saturday AM and I see all these guys out front in their pick up trucks and pistols on the hoods. Im thinking, ok I been set up. We put cola cans every ten years out to 40 years. I popped em all no problem. Almost all the guys had been outshot by a BB gun and left. One guy with a .45 1911 stepped up and took a couple of careful shots at the cola cans. Nothing. Then he emptied the rest of the mag on the 40 yard can and nothin. He loads another clip and empties it on the cola can, rapid fire. Nothin. He says not one word, loads up and leaves. I was feeling pretty good about all that. So, my 1950 Daisy Pump BB Gun hangs in a prominent place in my house in the swamp and I love it almost as much as I love my dog. And that is sayin one hell of a lot!
