Post on Tumblr explaining how badass Wendy Carlos is (no argument here) referred to Switched On Back as classical EDM. Got me thinking how I really dislike how EDM or electronic dance music, is becoming a generic term for ALL electronic music. Switched On Bach is *not* dance music. Theres not an oontz to be found anywhere on that record. Dance music fulfils a very specific, important role, but it does not begin to describe the width and breadth or the potential of electronic music. It ignores the contributions of electronic music pioneers like Delia Derbyshire or Clara Rockmore, to say nothing of Wendy Carlos herself.
