Postdoc For Patterning Of Graphene Using Directed Self-Assembly (Block Copolymer Lithography) - Technical University of Denmark -Denmark Apply no later than 13 June 2014 Graphene is novel material with outstanding physical properties. In the Graphene Flagship these properties are utilized and engineered to form the basis of several future technologies in the largest research project ever funded by the European commission. DTU Nanotech conducts cross-disciplinary research where micro- and nanotechnology is applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines (electronics, mechanics, chemistry, optics, fluidics, medical and biotechnology) as well as applications. DTU Nanotech relies heavily on the two state-of-the-art facilities, DTU Danchip (1500 m2 cleanroom) and DTU CEN – Center for Electron Nanoscopy. The graphene cluster at DTU Nanotech is rapidly growing with activities oriented towards basic and applied research, experimental, industrial and theoretical research alike. DTU hosts the Center of Excellence CNG (Center of Nanostructured Graphene) with more than 30 researchers and students covering fabrication, measurement and theory of graphene devices. Responsibilities and tasks DTU wish to employ a postdoctoral researcher, as soon as possible, for 2 years to perform research in the field of directed self assembly of masks for patterning of graphene (block copolymer lithography). The purpose is to modify the electrical and chemical properties of graphene in order to produce a transport gap for use of graphene as the device layer in transistors as well as a platform for chemiresistive sensors. The successful candidate will work out robust and scalable procedures for fabrication of nanostructured graphene via pattern transfer of self-assembled block copolymer thin films. A precise control of block copolymer structure over macroscopic length-scales is needed. Strategies for achieving this will be investigated in the project including thermal or solvent-vapor annealing, surface modification, graphoepitaxy, etc. Characterization of the materials at each step of fabrication will be made by different techniques, including electron microscopy techniques for structure elucidation. The ultimate integration of the nanostructured graphene in sensor devices will be realized in close collaboration with other team members. Qualifications Candidates that within the last two years have obtained a PhD in chemistry, physics, engineering, or related fields, should demonstrate qualifications in the following: Directed self assembly of block copolymers by control of surface chemistry, annealing, graphoepitaxy, etc. Pattern transfer by RIE Characterization by SEM, TEM, AFM, Raman spectroscopy, etc. FIB-SEM sample preparation for TEM Gas sensors, electrochemical sensors Team oriented research work Other relevant qualifications Innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas Independent problem solving skills Excellent communication and language skills International experience and international collaborative projects We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment, with state-of-the-art facilities and quickly growing graphene activity, with strong experimental as well as theoretical competences. The work will be carried out in close collaboration with researchers from CNG – Center for Nanostructured Graphene as well as international partners in the Graphene Flagship. The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is a leading technical university in northern Europe and benchmarks with the best universities in the world. Salary and terms of employment The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 2 years. Application Please submit your online application no later than June 13, 2014. Applications must be submitted as one PDFfile containing all materials to be given consideration. To apply, please open the link Apply online, fill in the online application form, and attach all your materials in English in one PDF file. The file must include: Application (cover letter) CV Diploma List of publications Applications and enclosures received after the deadline will not be considered. You should be able to start as soon as possible. All interested candidates irrespective of age, gender, race, religion or ethnic background are encouraged to apply.
