Virginia Langsford Posted 23 hrs ago by Virginia Langsford from Daylesford, Australia (Permalink) Public - Make members only traveling from ceduna through the nullarbor plain was just so good, i can hardly describe it. imagine a huge, flat plain, the size of victoria, in places no trees at all. reddish pink soil with olive green salt bush and low-growing, powder blue scrub and purplish ground cover all that covered by the light blue milk-glass sky, horizon to horizon. then the great australian bight, a long, long cliff coast, where, millions of years ago, the continent broke and separated into australia and antarctica. we parked right by a bay of cliffs. the sunset had every colour from dark wine red to all shades of purple, orange and pik. the southern ocean was thundering against the cliffs in frothy white waves, light blue, then dark, inky blue where it got very deep. we had a 3/4 silver moon then billions of desert star. all the next day we drove through the plain, hardly speaking a word. the silence and the beauty around us had a great healing effect on both of us, after the shocking incident. we camped deep in the scrub that night, it must have been raining there lately, because there were many beautiful wild flowers everywhere, i had never seen any of them before. we ate sardine sandwiches and bananas, had a beer each and then, feeling benevolent, i even let alex win the second scrabble game. dont let on about that, he was very smug and pleased. posting now so i wont lose this. Virginia Langsford Posted 23 hrs ago by Virginia Langsford from Daylesford, Australia (Permalink) Public - Make members only yesterday we reached norseman, google it the bit about the horse, where we turned left - two hours to esperance. and here we are. alexander just went out to buy some salad ingredients fancy stuff he brought back, even avocados and asparagus. we have some lamb and rosemary sausages, lamb chops and steaks and there will be a great big bbq here tonight. did all my nails with pink pearly polish and glitter polish on top and soon we are going for a walk on one of the white beaches with powdery, squeaky sand, then lunch, then the agricultural show (love patting baby animals..aaawww! hid some carrots in my bag for them)and meet big mike at his bowling club at 4.30 for a beer. from hence we shall bring home some of his friends, bearing various beverages and start the bbq. are we happy? i am deliriously so, alexander still recovering from the accident. hell come round soon, mike says. thats what blokes are like, he says, give him time. time we have. off now. back soon big, happy hugs from downunder virginia and alexander Posted 1 sec ago by Virginia Langsford from Daylesford, Australia (Permalink) Public - Make members only thank you so much, schorschilove, such a lovely and very fitting poem. alexander loved it and so did I. it is true, true and very soothing. well the show yesterday was quaint, mike and kath both were busy there and today we are going to a helms arboretum where our kath, a fabulous photographer and an orchid expert, suspects some rare orchids to open their blossoms today and take photos. then along a white, powdery sanded beach for sunset, I think. I havent told you the story about my walk with some fabulous birds. we were still in the koorong (google) in a free parking area far, far away from the next noisy human settlement. in the afternoon, I took a solitary walk through the coastal scrub of pink sand, low bushes, wild flowers and a few low gum trees, minding my feet, in thick socks and sneakers, because snakes live there very happily. suddenly I felt that someone was watching me and I looked up - there, high above my person, perhaps 10m away, were two emu heads, peering over a bush, turning this way and that, eyeing me off. first I was startled, angry emus can rip your body, with their claws, from throat to groin, in one swift move. then I thought, well, they just look curious, best keep walking, slowly. so I did. the two big birds kept stalking, stealthily, at the same pace, parallel to me. ah, I thought: walking with emus. like that better than running with wolves, and so we kept striding together, through the wonderful landscape, in good company. after a while, I turned and walked back, for a stretch and the did as well, so funny and when I turned and went forward again, the followed suit. by then, all three of us were very relaxed and kept strolling together. a deep peace and satisfaction settled in my soul and I was undescribably happy and in deep wonder. now we are going to see the orchids. back tomorrow happy roo hugs from a wonderful continent :>)
