Posted by Cindy 3/14/2014 Brads surgery last week went well. The doctor ended up going into the anterior tibial artery at the top of Brads foot. He traced the artery up the leg. He found 2 blockages in that artery. He used a balloon to open them and put a stint in at one of the blockages. He also entered the femoral artery to make sure that the wires would meet. By the end of the surgery they were able to get the same pulse at the foot that they got at the femoral artery. Brad was released around 5:00 pm. Brad saw his wound doctor and she said that the bedsore on his right leg is about 50% granulated tissue, which really means nothing to me, but she seemed happy. She is already planning Brads next surgery which will be to have a plastic surgeon do a skin graft on both his leg and the bedsore on his back side that he has been struggling with for over a year. She will have both bedsores done at the same time so that he will have just one recovery. He will be admitted to Vibra Hospital (a long term care facility by Brads house) for two weeks to recover. During that time they will also get Brad set up for a Baclofen pump to help with his muscle spasms. They are continually getting worse. They keep him up at night and they have started in his hips as well as his legs. Brad told me that he keeps his seat belt on when he is in his wheelchair because they feel like they could throw him out of the chair. His doctor told him that they are extremely hard on his body and that they are as taxing as running a marathon. Im guessing Brad should have a lot more energy once he has the pump in and can actually sleep at night. The medication makes him very sleepy as well, but the pump will distribute just a fraction of what he takes now, so that should help too. The pump is inserted under the skin in the abdominal area and pumps the medication right to his spinal cord injury. The reservoir is filled as needed by a needle. They will do that surgery once he heals from the bedsore surgery. It has really taken a long time for Brad to recover from his motorcycle accident, but I think he might finally be getting back to his new normal. We are both looking forward to the warmer weather! Thanks for always keeping Brad in your thoughts and prayers.
