Posted in the thread below by Mike A. >> No Republican president ever played golf. Ever. You idiots called him a gangsta for wanting to play basketball at the White House so he took up your sport. Still not good enough eh, I am so shocked. First of all, is the name-calling really necessary, Mike? You idiots Can we not have discussions and disagreement without resorting to personal attacks? Is a person officially an idiot if they are critical of this President? He took up your sport. Whos sport, Mike? Specifically? I wrote the thread & posted it and I do not golf. So who --exactly-- are you talking about? There is action, inaction & symbolism, Mike. The middle-east is descending into utter chaos right before our very eyes. What, specifically, are our foreign policy stances on: - Israel/Palestine/Gaza? - Iraq & the growing aggression of ISIS? - the raging civil war in Syria? - Irans march toward nuclear capability? I have no idea. Do you? If so, kindly explain them to me b/c I havent heard it from our President; but I have seen him shooting pool. The situation along our southern border is an all-out human trafficing crisis. The congressional IRS investigation is a full boil with the distinct possibility of (former) employees being arrested. I get that no president is ever truly off duty, but there is a time, place & role for symbolism. I monitor White House and the D.C. press carefully. The headlines surrounding our President for the few days has been him flying to Texas for fund raisers (he was right there IN the state yet did not go tour & get a 1st hand look at holding facilities and the human trafficing crisis hes helped create), pics of him shooting pool, ordering and hanging out eating bar-b-que, then a release from the WH about planning for their upcoming vacation to Marthas Vineyard next month, & golfing with some friends. Theres been virtually no formal policy statements. Look, the cool factor has already been established. Weve all seen it enough times. There comes a point where whats needed is leadership, even if only symbolically. He could be working very hard behind the scenes and doing an excellent job of looking out for U.S. interests. Great. But the external communication of images & releases of him golfing, drinking beers while playing billiards, etc., send horribly misguided messages. Iran has become a net-exporter of strategic missiles & theyre getting them to Hamas who now has expanded its strategic strike range to within 100 miles or so of Jerusalem. Our biggest friend and most stable Democratically-elected government in the region unless you consider the Saudis our friends, which is an on-again/off-again affair at best. Are we supporting Israel and if so, how? These are more pressing matters that I/we need to know ahead of golf outings. I take little comfort in the knowledge that 18 holes were squeezed in this morning. Sometimes its about message, sometimes about messaging. * thehill/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/212059-obama-hits-the-links-with-espn-host foxnews/politics/2014/07/11/smoldering-middle-east-leaves-white-house-struggling-on-message-response/ [very informative video]
