Posting 1522 Upasana of Almighty takes several forms such as meditation, chanting, archana, abhishekam, pooja, bhajan, keerthanam and so on. But pooja is the one set of acts imbibing deeds of Mind, limbs & mouth. The word pooja is derived from the word poo (please do remove the English word from your mind) meaning flower offering to the deity. There are prescribed flowers that befit pooja. And most definitely the bright orange coloured marigold flowers that every flower seller palms off for a hectic price does not form part of the list of approved flowers. In fact, some of the flowers listed in the pooja vidhanam are not even known to us, this day. Flowers meant for the pooja worship are expected to be plucked the same day they have blossomed. They need to be cleansed & their stems removed, Poojas are not merely restricted to our celestial gods in their accepted forms. Hinduism approves of various other subjects as godliness is seen in them. Gurus, Cows, Elephants, Young girl children, Sumangalis, Holy Lamps are all subjects that befit a pooja, at appropriate junctures, each of which has prescribed rituals. But it is rather strangely rare that a pair heartily acknowledges that his or her life mate is the resultant fruits of his or her pooja. And when they do so, expressing it rather musically to the accompaniment of a cine orchestra, it must be seriously so, let us admit! Listen to an old but popular duet of its time Naan seytha pooja palan by P. Leela & A.M.Raja from the film Gunasundari, in the music composition of Ghantasala. youtu.be/Hl2-tN8yAh4
