Posting...Epi position Adolescent and School Health Lansing MI Position: Adolescent & School Health Epidemiologist Contractual Full-Time Position – Michigan Primary Care Association Affiliate for the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) Location: Lansing Based –Full time contractual position for MDCH within the Surveillance and Program Evaluation Section (SPES), Lifecourse Epidemiology and Genomics Division. Salary: $51,100 - $57,600 per year, plus benefits $24.57 - $27.70 per hour Salary based on qualifications and experience. The position reports directly to the Manager of SPES but is also responsible to the Manager of the Adolescent and School Health (ASH) Unit at MDCH. Travel: Some in-state and limited out-of-state travel required Education: Master’s degree with a major in epidemiology or biostatistics, with a minimum of 12 combined graduate level term hours or 8 semester hours in epidemiology and biostatistics courses. Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience working as an epidemiologist including one-year equivalent to an Epidemiologist P11. Knowledge Skills &Abilities: Knowledge of adolescent and school health issues and/or maternal child health epidemiology and disease prevention would be very advantageous. Knowledge of SAS, SUDAAN, SPSS, or similar statistical software packages relative to the analysis and management of epidemiologic data. Knowledge of the methods used to organize and analyze large data sets would be very helpful. Ability to present data, surveillance, and analysis results as information useful to decision-makers. Strong problem solving and decision-making skills, demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, leadership and organizational skills, and written and verbal communication skills. Summary of Position: This position provides epidemiological expertise to MDCH, the Bureau of Disease Control, Prevention, and Epidemiology, and Bureau of Family, Maternal, and Child Health and is the recognized resource on all epidemiologic matters concerning Adolescent and School Health, including teen pregnancy prevention, school based/linked health centers, school nursing, comprehensive health education, and coordinated school health programs. This includes public health surveillance, epidemiologic study design and statistical analysis, use of data to inform policy and program development, and program evaluation. This position, in collaboration with ASH Unit program staff, will play an important role in identifying and then advising on program priorities, conducting priority activities, and fostering active collaboration with other maternal child health programs as well as other Maternal and Child Health (MCH) epidemiologists. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the recognized epidemiologic resource for the design, development, and management of statewide public health surveillance and epidemiological projects related to the target populations of the ASH Unit. Conduct surveillance to monitor the occurrence and prevalence of specific health outcomes targeted by MCH program goals and objectives, particularly around adolescent and school health issues. Study the quality of and access to adolescent and child health services and programs. Identify gaps in data that are necessary for program evaluation and comprehensive needs assessment at the state and local levels. Work to address these data gaps. Develop and manage databases and standard data collection tools to conduct public health surveillance and to help guide adolescent and school health programs. Work in strong collaboration with program staff within the ASH Unit as well as partners from the Michigan Department of Education to identify and move forward on solutions to data collection systems and integrating existing data collection efforts across departments. Provide technical expertise and training related to data management, surveillance, epidemiologic study design and analysis, and presentation of findings. Use surveillance data in support of projects to conceptualize, design, plan, and conduct evaluation of programs and projects occurring at the state and local level around improving health outcomes and disparities among medically underserved children and adolescents. Assist in the design and development deliverables to promote the understanding of adolescent and school health with emphasis on the impact of the lifecourse on outcomes related to key health and wellness indicators. Assist with submission of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications related to ASH projects. Attend meetings and serve on workgroups representing both SPES and the ASH Unit at MDCH.
