Posting Title: Associate Legal Officer, P2 Job Code Title: ASSOCIATE LEGAL OFFICER Department/ Office: Department of Management Location: NEW YORK Deadline: 26 July 2014 Job Opening number: 14-LEG-DM-35409-R-NEW YORK (T) This position is located in the Disciplinary Unit of the Administrative Law Section (ALS) in the Human Resources Policy Service (HRPS), Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) and the incumbent reports to the senior staff of the Unit. The Disciplinary Unit is responsible for handing disciplinary matters referred to OHRM, by providing legal analysis and advice on cases under the Organizations Staff Rules and Regulations and making recommendations. The Unit also represents the Administration before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal for those disciplinary cases that are appealed. Education Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in law or other related areas. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.A first-level degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P). Work Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible legal experience, including litigation at the national or international level is required. Experience in litigating administrative law matters is highly desirable. No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), United Nations Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE), or the General Services to Professional Examination (G-P). Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English (both written and oral) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
