Posting Title: Humanitarian Affairs Officer, P4 Job Code Title: HUMANITARIAN AFFAIRS OFFICER Department/ Office: Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Duty Station: CAIRO Deadline: 6 July 2014 Job Opening number: 14-HRA-OCHA-35442-R-CAIRO (X) This position is located in the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in The Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (ROMENA) in Cairo, Egypt. The Humanitarian Affairs Officer reports to the Head of Regional Office, under the overall guidance of the Coordination and Response Division of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Education Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in political science, social science, international studies, public administration, economics, engineering, earth sciences or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, crisis/emergency relief management, rehabilitation, development, or other related area. At least four years of that experience at the international level is required. Humanitarian experience in the field (actual setting where a mission and/or project is being implemented) in emergency situations (complex emergency or natural disaster) is required. Experience in the UN Common System is desirable. Experience in the region is desirable. Languages French and English are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
