Setting and Reporting The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC\CEPAL) is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the regions economic and social development. Its mission includes supporting the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at eclac.org , for further information. The internship in the Economic Development Division will last 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Division/Section. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an as- needed basis. Interns are expected to work on a full-time basis (work five days per week; 35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the Division/ Section to which they are assigned, but they may undertake flexible working arrangements, subject to certain conditions. The internship is UNPAID. All costs of travel and accommodation, including living expenses, must be covered by the intern or any relevant sponsoring institution. The child or sibling of a staff member shall not be eligible to apply for an internship at the United Nations. Interns shall not be eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, positions at the professional level and above for a period of six months following the end of their internship. Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: - Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; - Be computer literate in standard software applications; - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Advanced knowledge of Spanish (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme.
