Posting about the Legion Swimming Pool, I also remember some men coming by our home and my parents bought a membership to the pool. eventually the America Legion gave the City of Overland the pool . The Kimler building at Lake and Lackland, sits across the street from the Dennis Lackland built in 1844, the oldest dwelling still in use as a private residence in overland. Mr. Kimler and his son Ken ran the drug store and pharmacy, the long building had three levels, other businesses in the complex was Genes Sporting Goods, which was a gathering place for some folks to sit around and talk about hunting and fishing, a restaurant, Childers Wedding and speciality cakes (Carol Childers is living in the Ozarks now) Going through the doors of the building there were stairs leading to the second floor and also down to the lower level which had a Beauty Shop and a laundromat there, you could also park in the back of the building on the lower level. Also in that block was the Candle Shop, Hunts grocery store, a Hardware store and a shop owned by Jim Badgley, cant remember the name, been there for years. Of course a block east of Kimlers was my favorite store in the neighborhood YOUR STORE owned by Wilma and Bob Bartram. the picture below is the Dennis Lackland Home.
