(Posting again... for some reason my comments didnt show up) ..This is SO TRUE... I was thinking about something as I read it... I have one child who was formally identified as gifted and is in the Gifted Class. I have another child who before he took the test, I thought for sure would pass (and this is not just my bias as his mom) but didnt. This year, gifted testing came and went and I asked the school why I didnt get a note about the test... her response made sense... at first...every parent would want to get their child tested b/c they all think their child is gifted. Well, that make sense.... from an Administrative point of view... BUT... I do believe that every child is gifted in their own way. Some things are just not tested in the standard gifted testing.... such as a creative imagination...intuitiveness, or empathy, or even musical ability or acting. sorry... I am writing an essay, here. Anyway.... this article came at a good time, after feeling frustrated w/ school today. At the end of the day, it does not matter what my child is identified as... as long as they know they BOTH have special gifts to share with the world.... and are appreciated for WHO they are.
