Potential for Wintry Precipitation across Interior Southeast - TopicsExpress

Potential for Wintry Precipitation across Interior Southeast Georgia on Tuesday Night and Wednesday Morning Another Arctic Blast Expected Mid-to-Late this Week Timing and Overview: A frontal boundary is forecast to stall over the northern Gulf of Mexico and northeast Florida early this week. Periods of rainfall are expected to develop along and north of this front Monday Night and Tuesday. Another blast of arctic air is then expected to plunge into the southeastern United States Tuesday Night. If moisture lingers as some computer models suggest, then rain may mix with or change to freezing rain and/or sleet late Tuesday night and Wednesday Morning. At this time, this potential appears to be confined to interior portions of southeast Georgia and northern portions of the Suwannee Valley. However, forecast uncertainty exists this far in advance, and there is also the possibility that rainfall will end before colder temperatures arrive. Temperatures may rapidly fall by early Wednesday morning, which could result in slick roadways of our region. Additional hard freezes are possible on Wednesday and Thursday nights next week as a cold air mass persists over our region. Potential Impacts: Impacts: A period of freezing rain and/or sleet across SE GA late Tuesday Night and Wednesday Morning may produce significant icing on trees and other surfaces that may freeze more quickly than roadways, except for elevated roadways, bridges and overpasses which will be the most sensitive to icing in this situation. It is too early to determine exact ice accumulations at this time. A winter storm watch may be posted once confidence in this event increases. Temperatures: Falling into the 30s on Tuesday night, with possible below freezing temperatures by Wednesday morning over interior southeast Georgia and northern portions of the Suwannee Valley. Multiple nights of below freezing temperatures possible region-wide beginning Wednesday. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor forecasts, and will provide updates as needed.
