It was a whirlwind, two rounds of funding, eight engineers, big VCs, grants, awards, press, TV appearances, flying around the world.. oh and then Glass was a total flop. Some times you roll the dice! I had breakfast with Vinod Kohsla and the founder of guitar hero though - and thats gotta count for something! Were not out by a long shot. Its just round 2: We pivoted towards using Glass for FMCG insight trials and Advertisement Attribution. Clients so far include Walls, Ben & Jerrys, Magnum and the words largest advertising spender with trials paying 15-30k a time. We just closed another small funding round from the angel investor behind Kickstarter, Twilio, Etsy, Zynga. However, Im the only non-engineer in the team and Im holding them back. Doing something new as well as the people with ten years experience (blagging) is pretty standard entrepreneurialism but pitching and executing to an enterprise standard is flipping time consuming. I need a wing man. What I can offer is a crap salary, long hours and ridiculous expectations well above what youre capable of. Our engineers are mostly over 30 but for this I think I want a protege with fire in their belly. Basically heres the deal - come work with me and I can give you a baptism of fire. Learn how to be a scrappy entrepreneur, how to fundraise and the discipline to do it all at ridiculous speed without exploding. When youre ready you can do youre own thing and be a hundred times better than me and thats cool. Everyone who works here gets equity, everyone who underperforms or cant hack it is asked to leave and everyone does a one month trial before the team let them stay. I love it. But its not for everyone. Technically were doing anthropological research but this is a generalist role. To be super organised and a rapid executer is a must.
