Powerful night. Was honored to attend the Brady Center Bear Awards founded by Jim Brady, Ronald Reagan’s press secretary who was shot in the assignation attempt on President Reagan. This year I sat next to David Wheeler, the articulate and intelligent father of Ben Wheeler, one of the 20 6-year old children murdered in Sandy Hook. Background checks on gun purchases are supported by 91% of the American public. YET the losers in Congress are too afraid of the NRA leadership aka the gun lobby (70% of NRA membership want background checks). I think each member who voted against background check should have to look in the eyes of the murdered children’s parents and tell them why they think its ok to require a license to sell hotdogs on the street but a background check on a gun is unacceptable.
