Powerful statement from one of my fav people Hokooka AlEnsan: a few people asked me to post the statement i made at the rally the other day. My mother was born in Haifa, but she is not Palestinian. I am the daughter of an Israeli woman and I am a proud Jewish anti-zionist. Gaza is a concentration camp. It is a ghetto, where food, water, and supplies are monitored and rationed out to the people. There is a barrier fence surrounding the camp. It is similar to what my grandfather once described, although this one is stronger. There is no entrance, there is no exit. The Nazis would make occasional promises to my grandfather, Arbeit macht Frei (work brings freedom). My grandfather endured several years of living under this façade while the people of Gaza and Palestine have endured false promises and false dreams since 1948. Zionists and supporters of Israels war crimes exploit and appropriate my grandfathers stories, telling me to never forget. I say to them, it is you that has obviously forgotten. Did you forget the stories your mothers, fathers, and grandparents told you about their times in Auschwitz? Did you forget the gas chambers, Kristallnacht, housing raids, human experiments, Judenrat? You must not remember when your family told you stories of Jewish people not having the same rights as other citizens of Europe. No Jews allowed. Jews cannot work here. I say to Benjamin Netanyahu, Barack Obama and those who support him, do not use the stories of my grandfathers life to justify your crimes against humanity!! I make these comparisons because often times Jewish people are hesitant to support Palestine because they think doing so goes against their narrative as a Jewish person. One should support human rights regardless of their background and identity.. but I will say that because of our personal histories as Jewish people, we have a moral obligation to support Palestinian human rights. Imagine it. A state where the Palestinian people will have the same rights as my Israeli family. Where true democracy exists, NOT a Jewish ethnicocracy, where only Jewish people benefit from privilage and power. After years of failed peace talks and business as usual rhetoric, the list of maimed and murdered Palestinians grows every day. Nearly 1000 lives in the last 18 days, many of them, women and children...killed with the help of our American tax dollars. I am a supporter of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement which is modeled after the movement that helped dismantle South African apartheid. We must pressure our governments to stop funding this genocide. There is nothing Jewish about genocide. Not in my name as an American citizen! And not in my name as a Jew. FREE GAZA. FREE PALESTINE.
