Powers has now offered his resignation, but not effective until June 2015. At issue is a growing body of evidence that politically-connected individuals were given preferential admissions to UT despite have sub-par qualifications. Family, friends and staff of a small cadre of legislators allegedly received admissions to UTs undergraduate and law programs after by-passing the normal entry procedures by going directly through Powers.
