Practica Y Efectivo: Our truck would not start. Juan Muario and I got out as the pescadero Ezekiel walked up the street. After explaining that I thought the starter needed repair he called his Primo, Melvin who soon walked up protecting himself from rain with his umbrella, lifted the hood and suggested I might be right and in three hours after the rain stopped he would fix the problem. Instead he discovered the starter was fine but the alarm system automatically interrupted the starter and given time (less than 24 hours) he would fix this and give the truck a complete inspection. By the next night all was repaired and inspected and he charge me about 50 U.S. with apologies. His service, knowledge and work ethic is the norm here in Pana. On a deeper level it demonstrates the knowledge base when labor, capital and skills are integrated rather than segregated into separate hierarchies. This is the small business mecca town like Holland and Grand Rapids once represented. It makes me reflect on both Leo XIII late 1800s letter warning about separation of labor and capital and that by John Paul II one hundred years later that reissued this warning. They were thinking sociologically and theologically. What I see is more psychological where individuals have the confidence that they possess the knowledge and the physical strength to integrate body and mind leading to strength of character and confidence.
