Practical Ways To Love our Christian Brothers and Sisters October 4th, 2013 C. Jantzen “Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” (1 John 4:11) The Bible teaches us to love our Christian brothers and sisters. In his letter to the Colossian church, Paul explains how to go about doing that. “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” (Colossians 3:12-14) As we help out with a children’s program, we can express love by being kind and gentle. As we serve through music, teaching or administration, we can work with humility. At home with our spouse or children, respectfully waiting to use the bathroom, phone, or computer can become an expression of patient love. Above all, we need to remember that we are in need of God’s forgiveness and that we are called to extend forgiveness to our brothers and sisters. As we live out these virtues by the power of the Holy Spirit, we are living in obedience to God. We also become a reflection of Christ’s love to the people around us. Loving Father, thank You that You have offered us forgiveness for our sins. Thank You for giving us Your holy Bible, which teaches us how to love one another. Please give us the strength to be kind, humble, gentle and understanding with our brothers and sisters in Christ, so that Your love is reflected through us. And help us to forgive, as you forgave us.
