Prayers for the homeless and the addicted. When I arrived at the coffee shop this morning at 8am there was a homeless man sleeping in the middle of the sidewalk right next to where we parked, just a few feet from where I exited the passenger side door. At 9:30 when we went back to the car he had his pants down, his works laid out next to him, and was intently searching his sore ridden thigh in the bright morning sunshine for a spot to shoot up. I walked within a few feet of him as I got into the car. I didnt say anything and he didnt look up, just kept searching his skin for a place for the needle to tear a new hole. I locked the door and stared. Its a beautiful, sunny day here in Portlandia and the brilliant sunshine illuminated this suffering child of god to me in unbelievable ways. Such hurt.
