Pre season Viking rant... Yes VR is back for another season folks. Big changes in the coaching staff this off season has me optimistic about the future. Mike Zimmer seems to have everything Id hope for in a head coach. Firm (very) and fair. He has a ton if work to do with a defense that was gawd awful last season. The vikes went 4-0 in preseason. Doesnt mean squat really. Howeva... I like the competitiveness Zimmer has instilled. I look at two things in a well coached team: compete level and penalties and think the vikes excelled in both areas in the preseason. Personnel: I liked the re-signing of Cassell and LOVED the drafting of Bridgewater with the last pick in the first round (traded). #7 made the team as a third stringer... Like the wr corps but think the O line should be at a higher level than it is now. Make or break year for LT Matt Kalil. Norv Turner should be able to create nice matchups if defenses put 9 in the box to stop AD, whom we havent seen in the preseason. He could be even more lethal in this offense. Defensively I dont think the vikes did enough to shore up the back 7. Did tons of work to the d line (which was needed). This defense was so poorly built it will take years to patch it. Zimmers scheme is aggressive and in your face. I like that, but it is going to take a while to forget about the Frazier cover 2 BS. I see the vikes anywhere from 6 to 11 wins. Professional analysts pick them anywhere from 4 to 7 wins. Not out if the question, but if this team continues to ride momentum it could surprise some people. I say 9-7 and in the playoff hunt until week 17. Im down for the ride... SKOL lets put one on the Rams to open the year!
