Preaching and Private Jets: And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Jud 1:16 These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having mens persons in admiration because of advantage. Good morning. So you think all of this struggling for righteousness and disregard of Gods Word by His supposed children is new, think again. Enoch, the seventh generation from Adam spoke about the mess we live in today. If we only read the above three verses we might be prone to think that Jude was speaking about noted atheists and other loud and proud God haters that can draw a crowd to fill even the largest of convention centers. And though they are likely considered a part of the ungodly group we know from having read the entire letter and now having studied the first 13 verses prior to this that Jude is speaking more about supposed believers in Jesus! In speaking with one of my co-workers the other day, we found ourselves in agreement, the second private jet for the televangelist is too much! We laughed and I went back to work. Men in advantage. Men who can fill the largest of stadiums or convention centers and charge an entrance fee and promise to do great things and if any of those great things fail to materialize in your life its because you dont have enough faith. I know, some of you are thinking I have gone awry of what Jude is talking about. Enoch walked with God but he wasnt the only religious person on earth during his time, just the only righteous person and there is a huge difference. Do you find Enoch getting rich and buying a jet or two? Do you find him filling stadiums and giving great speeches which have more to do with money and healing and signs and wonders than they do about Jesus? The men Jude had in mind were religious men who had slipped in unawares and they were very religious men. Men who wanted the advantage, men who aspired to make millions, men who made profit off of being called a prophet of the LORD. They had a business plan and they were doing their best to apply it to the LORDs churches. They murmured and complained when things didnt go their way because they had to satisfy their lust for bigger crowds and larger paychecks. They stroked each others egos and admired themselves more than they admired or even loved Jesus. They implied or said outright that God spoke through them and yet they measured their words in an effort to make sure they offended no one and thus kept the cash coming in! They had to be in the advantage and when they werent they murmured and complained until they got back on top. So, how many private jets did Jesus own? How did He get where He needed to go? Private chariot? Carried on the shoulders of His followers? Which stadiums did He rent and charge admission to come hear Him speak and possibly be fed a nice meal and even get healed? The New Testament must have missed some things about Jesus, right? My copy indicates that Jesus walked most everywhere He went, including on water! He did ride in a boat a few times, shame on Him. He could have made millions setting up healing clinics and demonstrating how to walk on water! How many private jets did Jesus need? I will leave all that up to your consideration. What seem apparent to me is that Jude was not very enamored by the televangelists of his day. Quite the contrary, he seems to think God is going to smoke them some day. Advantage reversed.
