Preaching is Broken This is an excerpt of what I will be teaching - TopicsExpress

Preaching is Broken This is an excerpt of what I will be teaching in Sunday School in the morning. In my preparation I ran across this content in relation to preaching today. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones made some interesting comments concerning this issue. Please listen to his observations. Now listen to the Emergent Churchs (EC) perspective on preaching as was stated in the Emergent Convention in 2004. Doug Pagitt, an EC pastor told the gathering of 1100 leaders that Preaching is Broken. He suggested that a open conversation where all participants are seen as equals is better suited to a postmodern culture. Listen to this statement. A sermon is a violent act....its an act of violence toward the will of the people who have to sit there and take it. Now, just let me say right here that he is actually right about that. But the question is WHY is he trying to avoid and avert that violence? When the Word of God is preached (not preached much anymore) there will be a violent clash between truth and sin clashing in the core of mans spirit. Yes, there is violence, but a NECESSARY one. Biblical preaching is Divinely designed to confront the entrenched sin nature in man. Sin must be confronted. The Bible says to resist the devil. And that happens when the Word of God and the Holy Spirit are working in tandem together through preaching to expose and expunge sin out of the camp. Sin is confronted under the auspices of the anointing of Holy Spirit preaching. Anointed men preaching an anointed message via the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Men must learn how to preach by the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit has eyes that can see what the preachers eyes cannot see. That is why the EC wants to get away from preaching, because it brings too much heat to bear on their sin. They are not comfortable with this much supernatural intrusion into thier hidden sins and lifestyle. So, now we begin to see why preaching is no longer in vogue. This is what I find so troubling about the EC. One of the main reasons sinners do not come to church is because of the power present in Biblical preaching. Biblical preaching comes right at you, in a head-on confrontation. Biblical preaching is propositional by nature. Rank sinners who do not want to give up their sinful lifestyle, do not want to hear something that exposes their sin they are not ready to give up. And now we find the EC doing the exact same thing unrepentful sinners do, which is to do away with preaching. I smell a rat. So, we can see that the EC are not serious about living for God with total uncompromising commitment. A true believers wants to hear the truth no matter how hard that truth is preached. So, we see that the spirit that would marginalize and diminish Biblical preaching of the Word of God is one of demonic origin. Anointed Preaching If you want to hear this component of my lesson then you will have to come to Sunday School at 9 AM at Bethel. See you there.
