Precious memories of our close-knitted families who once lived - TopicsExpress

Precious memories of our close-knitted families who once lived peacefully with abundance of happiness on what we know now as Hopi Partitioned Land. Stability and predictability of our future were quite evident as everyone cared for one another. We dreaded the fabrication of the BIA fences which ultimately created a great divide. Our elders who were the stronghold of our communities in which we built our foundation upon bravely stood at the fence with much opposition and resistance. All of the positive attributes of a strong community and families swiftly disappeared. We were severed from our homeland and displaced in new communities. The support of our families and community no longer existed. We lived in uncertainty, loneliness and isolation missing our relatives/love ones while struggling to regroup. Some relocatee(s) successfully acculturated and adjusted to this nightmare while others didnt. A few stayed steadfast to their ancestral lands as they chose to continue to live there for 75 more years. Now, only memories linger from the past as we once were, now our new generation, armed with the knowledge of our past, hand in hand will take up arms in the struggle to rebuild our communities.
