Prehistoric: Q&A Written by 9th Illy for HipHopCanada HipHopCanada: What made you decide to battle at the King of the Dot event? Prehistoric: I had wanted to do another battle for over a year, so it was an easy decision when the battle with Gravity was offered. I really wanted to make a statement and show people that I am ready for a real challenge. I definitely wanted to send a message and use this battle to be in the mix with the Toronto crowd. HipHopCanada: Without spoiling the results for fans awaiting the KOTD video to premiere, how do you think your battle went – did it go how you planned it? Prehistoric: I think the battle went really well and I showed off a variety of my skills. The crowd was pretty intense so we ended up having to battle with microphones. That was not planned or expected. I think this may have worked in my favour as I have had plenty experience on the microphone over the years. I also got the chance to rebuttal [Gravity’s lines] a few times. I never got to do rebuttals during my first battle against Switch. I also got to put a bit of my freestyle game on show with some well structured verses mixing comedy, punch lines, crowd control and aggression. All in all, I think the performance will speak for itself and I really can’t wait to get down to Toronto and make some noise. I have big plans and am hoping that a KOTD run will be in my future. First things first, I got to take off some heads in Ground Zero. HipHopCanada: Battling wise, what’s next for you? Prehistoric: I spoke with Gully and Organik at Ritual Nightclub after the battle and it sounds like a Ground Zero in Toronto is in the near future. I really hope it happens soon and I will be ready for anyone they throw at me. Right now it’s just the waiting game to see what opportunity is presented to me. HipHopCanada: As a battler and musician as well, do you think it’s better to prioritize both or just stick to one craft? Prehistoric: I think its great to be able to do both. They are two very different talents and they each have their own rewards. I have to admit there is nothing like a crowd’s reaction during a battle, especially when they are really feeling you; it’s probably the biggest rush I have ever felt and I think I may be addicted now. I have been battling for years in the freestyle world, but to do it on the KOTD stage is ten times more gratifying. I will always be recording songs and enjoy making music, but deep down I believe I was made for battling. HipHopCanada: Are you working on any new projects – an album or mixtape? Prehistoric: I am currently working on my album entitled Walking Backwards on an Escalator. It will drop sometime later in 2013. I feel as if preparing for my last battle actually helped me develop so much as a writer. I see it as a consistent benefit for my future. I am constantly trying to improve in all aspects of the game and this upcoming record will definitely be a compilation of the best songs I’ve ever made. I am very excited for my album to drop and for my battle to be released later this fall. Introduction written by Zack Noureddine (@zacknoureddine) for HipHopCanada
