Embracing Pregnancy 1st Trimester(wks 1 - 13) Unfamiliar emotions and anxiety may be the biggest challenge during this trimester, especially when this is your first pregnancy. Massage will reduce stress and promote relaxation, supporting the body through its adaptation to hormonal changes. This massage will focus on creating emotional balance and enhance mother to embryo bonding. For high risk pregnancy energy work is considered the safest option during this trimester. Blissful Glow 2nd Trimester (wks 14 - 26) Your pregnancy has become much more real now and it shows in that glow. Pelvic, hip and leg pain may have also developed during this time. Positioning will be sidelying or semireclining to accommodate the structural changes of your growing fetus. Abdominal massage will be incorporated if appropriate for your specific concerns such as stretch marks or heartburn in which essential oils may be incorporated. Bittersweet 3rd Trimester (wks 27 - 40+) This is possibly the most important time to receive massage. Throughout this trimester women have difficulty sleeping, increased fluid retention and edema. You will be positioned sidelying or semireclining during this session with gentle abdominal massage offering calming contact and communication with your fetus as well as lubrication to taught skin.
