Preparing for our annual pilgrimage to Seward, Nebraska to get Josh all fixed up for his final year of college. Wasnt it just last August we did that for the first time????? This trip brings back a lot of great memories of time spent at Concordia University with Josh and all the wonderful students weve met over the past 3 years. In just a short time Josh will graduate, get married, and enter the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. The truth of the matter is we dont really have to go up there. We could handle all the financials from anywhere with an internet connection and transfer money to his account and have him do his own shopping. But he hasnt been home this summer so mom and dad kind of miss him a bit so off we go to do what we dont need to do but would feel better doing and have the desire to do. To my friend Tammy Williams Fimpel who has a daughter leaving home for her freshman year, I know its difficult to let go but really embrace these next 4 years because in a blink of an eye she will be graduating. I cant believe how fast it went for us watching Josh. Proud parents here. We intend to make a week of it and hopefully cross 2 states off my lower 48 tour with my sports car, now with 112,000 miles. South Dakota - never been there. Going to Rapid City and from there travel to Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, and the Crazy Horse memorial. We will be roaming folks - with no set plan. There are several approaches to traveling. Like many of my OCD, anal retentive friends I do a lot of reading and studying about things to do, places to stay, and places to eat. But other than making hotel reservations I leave the rest in memory. I let my current mood dictate my daily schedule for each day and Im not going to be upset if I dont get to do everything. This aint Alaska folks, but Ill share some pictures here and for those interested you can follow along on our journey. Weve got 3 days on the back side of this journey that have not been planned. And when I say not planned I mean we dont have a hotel because we dont know where we are going. Thats the adventure. The fun part. Pikes Peak ALWAYS calls me but so does going home - to Kansas City. I have family there. A big part of my heart will always be there. Or I may push further west to Yellowstone putting myself in a real bind to get back on time. Decisions, decisions. Stay tuned.
