Present Musics Thanksgiving concert this afternoon and today - TopicsExpress

Present Musics Thanksgiving concert this afternoon and today happens to be the Feast Day of Saint Cecilia --patron saint of all musicians! And dont we need one. To fully dedicate ones life to music -not to notoriety, but to musics true sacred offering-- is to accept mystery and its wondrous and terrible seductions; is to embrace the disappearance of ones self wholly into the service of communion in all its forms; is to embody a mortal faith that by its nature can never be justified. When we join together -in moments of great joy, and deepest sorrow- music attends us, rooted in the dim past and suggesting of a future worth pursing. This piece presented by Gavin Bryars was my favorite of the concert! It is formed on a loop of an unknown homeless man singing a brief stanza. Rich harmonies, comprising string and brass, are gradually overlaid over the stanza. The piece was first recorded for use in a documentary which chronicles street life in and around Elephant and Castle and Waterloo, in London. When later listening to the recordings, Bryars noticed the clip was in tune with his piano and that it conveniently looped into 13 bars.[2] For the first LP recording. Jesus blood never failed me yet Never failed me yet Jesus blood never failed me yet This one thing I know For he loves me so It starts out very quietly: youtube/watch?v=E1lnSi7QWY8
