Preservation El Reno is trying to save our beloved old pool house. The pool and its building were opened on June 1, 1935, after the citizens voted for a $25,000 bond issue. $10,000 of labor was provided by the Oklahoma FERA - Federal Emergency Relief Agency, if memory serves. We have set up a FB page called Save the Historic El Reno Pool House with some neat old ads and trivia about the pool. There is also a Go Fund Me link to help to raise money. At this point, to replace the roof will probably be the first expense. Then we hope to erect a steel frame inside the building. Then we need to find a local organization that can manage whatever the citizens want the building to be. It could be the fabulous childrens activity center that a local engineer designed and that was in the paper. It might be a center for weddings and reunions. There are all sorts of possibilities. But we just cant let it go much longer - the longer the roof is letting in the elements, the faster the building will deteriorate. So many of us have such happy memories of going there as kids, I just know we will pull together and save this important part of our history. Remember the court house? Remember Old Central? Please dont let us lose another wonderful old building. Thanks, everybody.
