Presidency Releases N1.2 Billion To Ohanaeze For Helping Jonathan Become President. Apex Igbo group, Ohanaeze, was rewarded with N1.2 billion for the role it played in helping Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to win Nigeria’s presidential ballot in 2011, it has been alleged. The allegation was made by Ohanaze Founding Secretary General/Chief Executive, Professor Ben Nwabueze, in a letter he wrote to Chief Goddy Uwazurike, President of the Igbo think tank, Aka Ikenga. In the letter dated 15th January, 2014, Prof. Nwabueze, who is also Nigeria’s foremost constitutional lawyer, disclosed that the sharing of the money has compounded the crisis in Ohanaeze. He wrote: “I take it that you are aware of the division in Ohanaeze, arising from the election of 12 January, 2013 whose validity is being contested in the courts and from the sharing of disbursements of the N1.2 billion, not million, alleged to have been given by the presidency to Ohanaeze for delivering the South-East to him at the 2011 presidential election – this issue is also pending in court.” The letter dwelt on the divisions in Ohanaeze, which Prof. Nwabueze said saddens him. He accused Ohanaeze President-General, Dr. Gary Enwo-Igariwey, of not keeping agreements, thus worsening the disagreements that have dogged his election early last year. Daily Newswatch
