** President Barack Obama vowed that "all appropriate steps" be taken to protect Americans after the US issued a worldwide travel alert and ordered its embassies across the Islamic world to close temporarily. France and Germany joined Britain in ordering their Yemen embassies to close. French president Francois Hollande warned there was a high likelihood of an attack. "We have elements that lead us to believe that the threat is very serious and other countries have also taken similar steps," Mr Hollande said. "Therefore the embassy [in Yemen will be closed for several days.
