President Jacob Zuma will today hand over an operator permit for the Dube Trade Port Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) to Premier Senzo Mchunu in Durban. The Presidency said in a statement, The IDZs are intended to promote industrialisation and create awareness about the Special Economic Zones programme and its potential to grow the economy and create jobs through creating an environment conducive to foreign direct investment,” The handing over of the permit comes a year after Zuma launched the Saldanha IDZ in the Western Cape. The Saldanha IDZ has already attracted interest from 19 potential investors who are keen to locate there. Today’s event is part of the government’s efforts to prioritise the economy and local government. In his state of the nation address Zuma said the economy would take centre stage this term and announced a target of 5% growth by 2019.. (New Age)
