President, John Dramani Mahama has offered to use his influence, if the need be, to lure players such as Kevin Prince Boateng, and Dede Ayew back into the Black Stars. “There are few issues that need to be resolved. Some players are not too happy and have opted out. I believe they will all come on board, I have spoken to some of the F.A personalities to see if whether they need my influence I am ready to come on board and help,” he said. The President made this known when Michael Essien led a team of international players to pay a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House on Saturday. The players are in the country to support the Micheal Essien Foundation in the Game of Hope and Inspiration Charity Game. President Mahama further called on Ghanaians to support the Black Stars as they sought to qualify for the World Cup. According to the President, though the performance of the team at the African Cup of Nations was "disastrous", "I ask Ghanaians to take heart, after that outing. I said it was not the end of the road. We should continue to give the stars what they need. I am sure they will bounce back.” Former German and Bayern Munich captain, Michael Ballack on his part said, “I am very happy to be here. It is my first time in Ghana. Michael asked me to be part of this great group here. I am pleased to be here and have a great game. I think Michael in my eyes is a great model not only in Ghana but also in Africa, and having him as a friend and also doing such important things, away from football, we have to play our part and do our best,” he said.
