President Uhuru to launch Kenya future leaders’ initiative forum in Garissa AS GOVERNOR NATHIF VOWED TO CEMENT THE INITIATIVE: President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to launch tomorrow in Garissa town the Kenya Future Leaders Programme an initiative by the Jubilee administration long-term effort to support and develop young Kenyan leaders. This was disclosed by Education CS Jacob Kaimenyi when he led an advance team to prepare for the launch in paying a courtesy call to Garissa Governor Nathif Jama. The programme aims at promoting national cohesion, improve educational outcomes for over 15,000 primary school children and create enriching opportunities for over 30,000 unemployed Kenyan youths. Under the selective and prestigious programme, the government will recruit recent university graduates – who are employed – to serve as community education assistants in primary schools, where they will serve as teachers’ aides and education ambassadors in the surrounding community. The volunteers will engage to mentor students in primary schools in areas of leadership and entrepreneurship. They will also help local communities to access and complete forms such as Uwezo Fund, NHIF, tender forms among others. Volunteers will receive training, expenses allowances during their posting and career development opportunities as a part of the experience. The programme will provide opportunities for over 30,000 youth in over 15,000 primary schools across the country. An initial cohort of 1,600 volunteers will be placed in eight counties in year one. In subsequent years, the programme will scale up to place larger cohorts each year, until ultimately all 47 counties are covered. The first eight counties include Garissa, Kilifi, Machakos, Nyeri, Kisumu, Busia, West Pokot and Samburu. Ends…………………
