President of the Spiritual Baptist foundation, Bishop John Noel - TopicsExpress

President of the Spiritual Baptist foundation, Bishop John Noel says he is surprised at the apparent silence of the conference of churches on the issue of a self-confessed atheist leading the country’s senate. Grenada’s national order of precedence puts the president of the senate at 5th in the line of power. This follows the Governor General, Prime Minister, Chief Justice and Ministers of government. Late last year Chester Humphrey was sworn in as president of the senate and did not place his hand on the bible. Bishop says after 41 years of Independence an atheist should not hold such a post in a Christian nation. Bishop Noel says a person can hold onto their views but they should not hold such an important post. Last week the president of the conference of churches Osbert James spoke in defense of Mr. Humphrey. However he spoke to GBN in his personal capacity and not in his position as president of the conference of churches.
