Press Information Bureau Government of India Ministry of Labour & Employment 01-December-2014 17:44 IST Curriculum Under Skill Development The Minister of State (IC) for Labour and Employment, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya has said that a study has been conducted by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), according to which the incremental requirement of skilled manpower in 21 high growth sectors by the year 2022 is estimated to be 34.7 crores. The detail is enclosed at Annex-1. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Shri Bandaru Dattatreya said that Government of India formulated National Policy on Skill Development (NPSD) in the year 2009 with a mission to empower all individuals through improved skills, knowledge, nationally and internationally recognized qualifications to gain access to decent employment and ensure India’s competitiveness in the global market. The vision of NPSD includes scale of ambition, high inclusivity, dynamic and demand-based system planning, choice, competition, accountability, policy coordination and coherence, folding the future in, skill framework for equivalence to diploma and degree, coordinated solution, forging partnership and game-changing delivery/ innovation. The policy aims to support in achieving rapid and inclusive growth through enhancing individuals’ employability, improving productivity, strengthening competitiveness and attracting investment in skill development. The Minister said that National Skill Development Corporation - NSDC was set up as part of a national skill development mission to fulfill the growing need in India for skilled manpower across sectors and narrow the existing gap between the demand and supply of skills. He said that the Government has notified National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) in June, 2013 by subsuming the Prime Minister’s National Council on Skill Development (PMNCSD), the National Skill Development Coordination Board (NSDCB) and the Office of the Adviser to PM on Skill Development. The Minister said that a separate Department of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship has been constituted with mandate which, inter alia, includes coordination with all concerned for evolving an appropriate skill development framework, removal of disconnect between the demand and supply of skilled manpower through vocational and technical training, skill up-gradation, building of new skills, innovative thinking and talents not only for the existing jobs but also for the jobs that are being created.
