Press Release 10/31/2014 Bastrop County IMT continues to meet; Stresses the importance of Flu Shots Bastrop County officials and health care professionals continue to meet and plan regarding the Ebola virus and its potential impact on Texas and the county. The focus now is on prevention and preparedness. Quarantine policies are in place in some eastern states that have busy international airports. Texas has not implemented such a policy, but has named two hospitals, located in Dallas and Galveston, as designated care facilities. Since our last meeting, no new cases of Ebola originating stateside have been reported. This is encouraging. Our Bastrop County Health Authority is Dr. Desmar Walkes. She said, “The response of our Public Health system in Texas has been effective in containing the spread of Ebola. We encourage continued vigilance to stop the spread of all communicable diseases. The flu still remains our greatest concern so do not forget to get your Flu shots. The Incident Management Team is in constant communication. We are keeping current on national and state supported protocols. We are also meeting with our Emergency Medical Services contractor, Acadian, and other first responders to address safety and preparedness issues. “Although we cannot control the actions of others, we can each be responsible for our own behavior when it comes to our health,” said County Judge Paul Pape. “I got my annual flu vaccination last week, and encourage each of you to consider the same. Remember that simple things like washing hands and using appropriate sanitation measures are all a part of staying healthy.” The project team will continue to meet and share information as long as the Ebola virus potential exists in the US. If you have information that we should be aware of, please contact the County Judge or his Public Information Officer, Gayle Wilhelm, at 512-332-7201. ##### Media Contact: Gayle Wilhelm, Bastrop County Judge’s Office, 512-332-7201 [email protected]
