Press Release Details Share Print NA Speaker Calls For Interaction Between Parliamentary Groups and People of Sweden and Pakistan to Build Bridges of Friendship Monday, 11th November, 2013 Islamabad: November 11 2013; Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly has underlined the importance of Pakistan for stabilization of Afghanistan and peace in the region. He also expressed his country’s desire for a stable and peaceful atmosphere in Pakistan as well as in the region through negotiations. Talking to the Ambassador of Sweden Mr. Lars-Hjalmar Wide in the Parliament House today, the Speaker said terrorism and extremism are the biggest threats to peace and stability in Pakistan and it can be curbed by addressing the root causes of this menace. “Being a frontline state in war against terrorism, Pakistan has rendered unprecedented sacrifices in this regard” he added. Taking about the democracy in Pakistan, he said that democracy has taken roots and all the progressive political forces were united on the issues of national importance and for the betterment of the masses. “Democracy is the only way to guarantee our stability and to ensure our economic and social progress” he added. The Speaker said that the recent smooth transition of power from one elected government to another was a great motivation for strengthening of the democratic institutions in Pakistan. The Speaker underscored the need for regular interaction between political leadership, parliamentarians and people of both the countries that would take the existing bilateral relations between both the countries to new heights. He also stressed the need for frequent exchange of Parliamentary Delegation and to re-activate friendship groups between the two Parliaments for better understanding and enhanced cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy. He asked the Ambassador to energize the engagement between business community of the both the countries especially in energy, textile, telecommunication and other industrial sectors. He said that revival of economy through pro-investment policies and enhancing trade with foreign countries is the top most priority of the government. The Speaker asked Ambassador to convey his invitation to his Swedish counterpart to visit Pakistan. Reciprocating good gesture of the Speaker, Ambassador Mr. Lars-Hjalmar said that Sweden also considers Pakistan its closest friend and economic partner. He said that huge economic potential exists in both the countries which needed to be grabbed for mutual benefit. He appreciated Pakistan’s sacrifices in fight against terrorism. He assured Speaker that Sweden had and would support Pakistan in future to deal with crisis confronting its progress and prosperity. He agreed for enhancing parliamentary ties between both the parliaments.
