Press Release From Dartford Borough Council: Angry Council bosses tell KCC ‘Get Bob Dunn Way open’ Dartford Council bosses have admitted that KCC’s failure to reopen Bob Dunn Way following floods over Christmas has stretched the relationship between the two authorities to breaking point. At a meeting yesterday (Thursday) members of the Council’s Cabinet described the continuing closure as wholly unacceptable and complained that communication with motorists has been less than helpful. Bob Dunn Way remains closed to traffic more than three weeks after flooding inundated the road surface and Dartford Borough Council has explained that the ensuing road chaos is not only affecting the lives of local people but is having a serious impact on businesses and employers in the area. With this crucial route shut, traffic is forced to use town centre roads, causing continuous congestion and long delays. A Council spokesman said, “We do not blame KCC for the extreme weather or for initially prioritising areas where lives and houses were threatened but we are now a month on and this major road remains closed. Our complaint is that in the intervening weeks there has been little or no communication with motorists and few signs of any firm plan to reopen the highway. Our interventions yesterday did bring a confirmation that the County Council will finally use its Section 100 powers to remove water to adjoining land but even this was qualified with a statement that work would be subject to ‘resource availability’. That is totally unacceptable.” Members of the Cabinet last night urged KCC Highways to step up efforts to reopen the road before heavy traffic demand starts again on Monday and to find the resources necessary to get our town moving again. Dartford Council Leader Jeremy Kite strongly reminded Kent’s traffic bosses that, “The cost of putting this right is nothing compared to the cost to our local economy and the appalling impact on local people.”
