Press Release as of 10:50am School district statement regarding closure of five Battle Ground schools: The decision to close five Battle Ground schools today, Sept. 11, 2013, was made in collaboration with the Battle Ground Police Department. This was a precautionary measure taken to assure the safety of our students. Police are currently doing a thorough, physical sweep of all five schools involved and are proactively investigating the situation. Police declined to elaborate on the threat because the information could jeopardize the investigation. We will provide additional information as it becomes available. A decision about whether the five schools will be open tomorrow, Thursday, has not been made. We will contact parents and the media late this afternoon, or once a decision can be made. A series of threats against students and staff at Chief Umtuch Middle School prompted the decision to close that school, along with nearby schools, Captain Strong Primary School, Summit View Middle School, CAM Academy and Battle Ground High School. It has been agreed that the Battle Ground Police Department will issue any updates regarding the investigation.
