Press Release from Trans Maldives Airways Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) has held a special dinner celebrating “25 Years of Excellence”. The event held at Hulhule Island Hotel also marked the receipt of “World’s Leading Seaplane Operator” and “Indian Ocean’s Leading Seaplane Operator” by TMA at the 2014 World Travel Awards. TMA also received ISO-9001 Certification for Quality Management System, ISO-14001 Certification for Environmental Management System and ISO-18001 Certification for Occupational Health and Safety – thus making TMA the first airline in Maldives to receive the above three ISO Certification as an integrated management system. In addition, TMA also received the PAS 99 Certification from the certification body British Standards Institution (BSI). The certifications were awarded to TMA by BSI’s Managing Director Mr. Venkataram Arabolu and received by TMA’s CEO Mr. A.U.M. Fawzy. Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) and Maldivian Air Taxi (MAT) were established 1989 and 1993 respectively. Back in February 2014 one of world’s leading investment and advisory firm, Blackstone, acquired a controlling interest in both companies. TMA currently operates 46 Twin Otter seaplanes making it the world’s largest seaplane operator. TMA had transferred 983,990 passengers in 2014, continuing its role as a major contributor in the ever-expanding tourism industry in Maldives.
