Press Statement Rivers Guber 2015: Stop Beating About The Bush, PDP Tells Amaechi The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, says it still cannot fathom why Gov Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is so much bothered about the PDP and who becomes its governorship candidate for next year’s general election. Rather than concentrating on putting his cracking house in order, the PDP said Gov Amaechi has continued to make wide ranging insinuations about plots to install a PDP aspirant as the State Governor in 2015 even when the party is yet to conduct its primaries. Even though it does not intend to join issues with the illusioned Amaechi, the PDP strongly believes that Amaechi’s fear is born out of frustration and regret for having shot himself in the leg by embarking on the unholy alliance with the enemies of the South/South against President Goodluck Jonathan. The PDP in a statement signed by the Special Adviser, Media to the State Chairman, Jerry Needam observed that having met a brick wall trying to accuse falsely in order to provoke the President who is too busy to have time for his rantings, Amaechi has once more turned to the President’s wife, Dame Patience Jonathan and the newly posted Police Commissioner to the State, Dan Bature with the same old story of plotting to install a PDP aspirant as the State Governor next year. As baseless and unfounded as the allegation is, the PDP said it’s ever ready to face Amaechi at the polls any day and will definitely coast home with a landslide victory. It however challenged Amaechi to make public any evidence of the First Lady’s plot and, or directive to CP Bature to install the PDP aspirant as governor next year and how they plot to do so, when the elections are going to be conducted by INEC in full public glare. “We know all this is a gimmick to either intimidate the new Commissioner of Police to do Gov Amaechi’s bidding or to provoke him to find ground to accuse him of a witch-hunt just as he did against CP Mbu Joseph Mbu, now an Assistant Inspector General of Police all in a bid to garner public sympathy,” the PDP declared. The party advised Amaechi to stop panicking before time but should prepare for the election where it is sure to humble him after “we have elected” and not installed our governor, the people’s governor”. “May we however apologize to the first Lady and the new CP on behalf of the Rivers people for the insult and embarrassment by our berserk governor to bear and put that behind. That’s his character, for a situation that cannot be cured is better endured”, it concluded. Signed: Jerry Needam Special Adviser, on Media to State PDP Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah Thursday, September 18, 2014.
