Press Statement of SDP & KWSFS: Concerning Our Solidarity With the People of Western Sahara On behalf of Social Demecratic Party of Kenya (SDP) and Kenya - Western Sahara Friendship Society (KWSFS), I take this opportunity to reiterate our solidarity with the heroic people of Western Sahara led by POLISARIO Front and other patriotic and progressive forces who have never given in to the colonisation of their country by Morocco, and who amidst great difficulties continue with the just struggle for the freedom and liberation of their motherland. We do this with the full knowledge that Western Sahara has never been part of Morocco and, therefore, the occupation of the country by the Kingdom is as unjust, illegal, false and shameless. Western Sahara remains the last colony in Africa! The lies about Western Sahara that are spread to the World by Morocco everyday will never change this fact! Morocco continues to deny the people of Western Sahara their right to national liberation and self-determination through the use of brutal military force, bribery of its allies and false propaganda. Inside occupied territories of Western Sahara arrests, intimidation, torture, killing and gross violations of human rights including those of women and children have escalated. At the same time, Morocco and its allies continue to plunder the natural resources of Western Sahara with impunity. It is a shame that this state of affairs is going on under the eyes of the African Union (AU) and the United Nations (UN)! Why should the Kingdom of Morocco be allowed to go on committing crimes against humanity with impunity!? Hasn’t the AU and UN been too patient with the shameless colonisers of the long suffering people of Western Sahara? In the meeting of Africa Left Network Forum (ALNEF) that will take place Dakar, Senegal, from 12th - 15th November 2013, in which left parties from 38 countries will be represented, SDP will move resolution for ALNEF to reiterate and reinforce the resolution in solidarity with POLISARIO Front and Western Sahara adopted in Bamako, Mali, in November 2011*. Considering the violations of human rights and crimes against humanity being perpetrated by the colonial forces of Morocco inside Western Sahara, SDP and KWSFS calls for - and will ask ALNEF to call for - the mandate of United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to be extended to include the monitoring of human rights inside Western Sahara. We also demand the implementation of the UN resolutions on Western Sahara to be implemented and enforced with urgency. This includes the end of the ongoing plunder of the natural resources of Western Sahara by Morocco and her allies. Furthermore, SDP and KWSFS wishes to remind AU, UN and the World that the people of Western Sahara led by POLISARIO Front suspended the armed national liberation struggle to give chance to the peaceful solution brokered by the UN. Unfortunately, hitherto Morocco is ’allowed’ to continue sabotaging the peaceful solution of the liberation of Western Sahara with impunity. We warn that the people of Western Sahara living under the oppression of Morocco colonialism will not tolerate the postponement of the liberation of their country forever! Finally, we congratulate and thank all countries, people, governments and organisations from all over the World who offer all kind of solidarity to the national liberation struggle of the people of Western Sahara. We single out the government and people of Algeria for remaining in the forefront of this solidarity with Western Sahara. As we do so, we are aware of the dirty propaganda being unlished by Morocco against Algeria in this regard. We condemn it in no uncertain terms! For here in Kenya we know the principled and progressive policy of Algeria born by her own history of struggle for liberation from colonialism that has offered and continues to offer moral and material support to all nations and people struggling for national liberation in Africa and throughout the World. The struggle of the people of Western Sahara for their right to freedom and self - determination is a just and progressive struggle and therefore it will triumph ultimately! Long live Kenya - Western Sahara Friendship Society! Long live POLISARIO Front! Long live the struggle for the liberation of Western Sahara! Ever in solidarity, Mwandawiro Mghanga, Chairperson of SDP and KWSFS.
