Press release - UPDATE – High Risk Incident - Wanted Subject in Custody. On July 30, 2014, VPD received information from the Santa Paula Police Department that a wanted subject, David Hernandez, was believed to be inside of a room at the Motel 6 on Harbor Blvd. Hernandez, had a felony PROS (Post Release Offender Supervision) warrant for domestic violence. It was also reported Hernandez was possibly armed and dangerous. Due to the likelihood of Hernandez being armed, VPD’s SWAT team was deployed and set up a perimeter around the location. SWAT negotiators made contact with Hernandez, and after several minutes of negotiating with him over the phone, Hernandez voluntarily came out of the room. He was taken into custody without further incident. To ensure the safety of the public, VPD had closed Harbor Blvd. to through traffic between Seaward Ave. and Monmouth Way. The roadway was closed for approximately 1 hour.
