Pretend for a few paragraphs that its still August 10th, please. I want to share with you some information written by Berthas younger sister, Marco. Born in Mexico in 1892, died on August 10, 1973 in Arizona. These quotes are from her autobiography. Her husband Walter Hackleman is from Indiana, and in Arizona worked as a barber and as a forest ranger (in AZ and NM). After retirement, he was in charge of the tools in the Industrial Department of what is now ASU. She writes While at Beaver Creek, Walter met with an accident. There was a premature explosion and his neck was broken. For ten long years it was a struggle. ... Walter improved ... Oak Creek was our next home. All of the places we had been, we thought were the best, and then we came to Sedona at Oak Creek. This we decided was the very best ... good people and a nearby store. I decided to get the people together so I got on my horse and visited each family. We organized a Union Sunday school and I ran it like an L-dS Sunday school and they loved it. ... we were sent to Capitan, NM, to work in the Forest Service. ... I didnt have my own church there so I was asked to be the Sunday school supervisor in the Methodist church. I used our Mormon literature and we had a wonderful time. I also gave all the lessons in the womens circle for two churches, the Methodist and the Nazarine . It was very interesting and they loved our lessons from the L-dS Relief Society manual. ... She sounds like a woman who hadnt learned the word cant. Sarah Bodily lived with the Hacklemans for a year while going to the Normal School (now ASU) in Tempe, before moving to Flagstaff (what is now Northern Arizona University). Randolph, only child of Marco and Walter, also attended college in Flagstaff and became a teacher.
