Pretend that you live on an island in the pacific. Youve never had contact with or even know of the existence of other societies and live a primitive lifestyle that has never even heard of technology. Then one morning, you wake up to giant war ships off the coast, soldiers stationing themselves on your island, and fighter jets dropping cargo boxes of supplies, medicine and food from the skies. Then they share the food, medicine and technology with you. This actually happened during World War 2, and the islanders believed it was an extra terrestrial experience, and that they were visited and saved by the Gods. They are called Cargo Cults, and to this day they build fake runways, build dummy airplanes out of sticks, dress scarecrows in military gear, and wait all day in hopes of attracting the planes that they see flying overhead to return to them. This is a neat little clip of them waiting for planes to land, and... (spoiler alert!) nobody coming.
